This is the Tell Me Thursday for THIS Wordless Wednesday photo.

I love this photo of my mom and sister in the kitchen.  Look at the cool stove in the background and my mom’s hair!

My daughter actually found this shot on a CD of photos that my dad had given us to create a montage for their 50th wedding anniversary party in May. She remarked how much she loved the picture too.

Amazing how a photo can bring to mind all that is/was good about life.  I’ve bragged on my mom in past posts because she really was and is a wonderful mother.  I don’t know a whole lot about the specifics of this photo but I can guess a few:

1. It’s a Sunday. My sister has on a fancy dress and a bracelet and my mom looks like she is made up for the day.  Church going was a given in our family as we were growing up. So it’s pretty likely that this photo was snapped after church as Mom and sis were making Sunday dinner. (I must be napping somewhere! My sis is about 4 years older than me)

2. They’re happy.  We had a very happy home back then.  Mom was a stay at home mother and dad worked very hard.  My folks came over from Holland to “the land of opportunity” with a suitcase and $20 in his pocket and a lot of dreams.  We had a very small house for the four of us but it was full of love… you can see that in this photo.

3.  My dad liked what was going on… because he’s probably the one taking the photo. I can imagine my dad looking over and seeing his bride mentoring his oldest daughter in the ways of homemaking and being proud.  Dad often remarks how thankful he is that both my sister and I made the decision to stay home and raise our kids - a great testimony to my mom’s commitment to do the same during a time when it was not a popular choice.
